CULTURE / THE MYKONOS BIENNALE

Updated: Aug 20, 2018

Mykonos is well known as a destination for the LGBTQ+ community and has been for many decades, but did you know that the island hosts an art biennale every odd year in the beginning of summer?

So during a week in the end of June or beginning of July, the island host an extensive range of artworks, projects, workshops and a vast program of events.

The biennale commissions established and emerging artists to create and present permanent and temporary public artworks, as well as long-term community-based projects.

“These newly commissioned and existing artworks and projects are presented in various locations, including unusual public spaces such as the famous landmarks of the island.”

The town hall, the School of Fine Arts and other organizations in Mykonos provide the right context for the presentation of contemporary art and culture. The next Mykonos Biennale will be held in 2019. / STELIOS VASILANTONAKIS, CO-EDITOR
